Now the EU has got 23 official languages. Therefore it is easily understandable, how important it is to speak at least some of them. Acquiring a good command of a language takes time, but even if you know only some phrases, this can be seen as a very positive attitude towards people from other countries, esp. in business contacts. Find out more about the languages of the EU!

The year 2005 has been designated as The Year of Languages in the US:

One very interesting reason for this initiative is, that as soon as we speak the language of another country, it's much harder to hate the people there. And once they are no longer complete foreigners to us, it's much more difficult to drop bombs on them.

In March 2000 the European Council set the goal that Europe should become "the most competitive and knowledge-based in the world, capable of sustaniable economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion." e-learning is supporting everyone in Europe to reach that ambitious goal.

COMENIUS  focuses on the first phase of education, from pre-school and primary to secondary school, and it is addressed to all members of the education community in the broad sense – pupils, teachers, other education staff, but also local authorities, parents' associations, non-government organisations ...

COMENIUS supports school partnerships, projects for the training of school education staff, and school education networks. It thus aims to enhance the quality of teaching, strengthen its European dimension and promote language learning and mobility.

COMENIUS also emphasises certain important issues: learning in a multi-cultural framework, which is the cornerstone of European citizenship, support for disadvantaged groups, countering under-achievement at school and preventing exclusion.

Have you ever wished to live and study abroad? Have you ever wanted to get to know a different culture, study at a foreign university, meet new friends, learn another language, all at the same time?

Then SOCRATES/ERASMUS is exactly what you are looking for!

The SOCRATES/ERASMUS programme offers you the unique possibility to study abroad in any other European country for a period between 3 and 12 months.

Of course, if you have studied abroad, you will also be interested in recognition of your achievements at home. ECTS is helping you in this situation.

The Leonardo da Vinci vocational training programme  promotes transnational projects based on co-operation between the various players in vocational training - training bodies, vocational schools, universities, businesses, chambers of commerce, etc. - in an effort to increase mobility, to foster innovation and to improve the quality of training. The Leonardo da Vinci programme aims at helping people improve their skills throughout their lives.
